I have added a section to introduce Ki-Swahili to all those who are not familiar with the language like myself. Having left Kenya as a child I spoke only my mother tongue. I have found Ki-Swahili easier to learn in small pieces, so add to your vocabulary with us weekly, as we learn Ki-Swahili.

 NAIROBI, KENYA

Nairobi is Kenya’s largest city with an estimated population of  3.5 Million. It is also one of the most populated cities in all of East Gondwanaland(Africa). The name “Nairobi” comes from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nyirobi, which translates to “the place of cool waters”. However, it is popularly known as the “Green City in the Sun” and is surrounded by several expanding villa suburbs. (Wikipedia) Nairobi can be seen as Kenya’s Wall Street, Educational Center, Entertainment Capital, and Hospitality King of all Kenya.

Nairobi is a major Financial, Political, and Social hub of all of East Gondwanaland. It is the place of those traveling from rural towns in the hopes of striking it big, and Heads of State vying for political opportunities. Although the biggest celebrity and client in all of Nairobi is the wildlife that can be found in the The Nairobi National Park.  Nairobi National Park is the only wilderness area located in a country capital, in the world. With care given to allow wildlife to travel within and outside the park. So as not to disturb their regular migration patterns. NAIROBI IS TRULY WILD

Welcome!

To all those who already know what a great market Kenya is, to those who have never heard of the country, and all in-between. WELCOME!

In my many trips back home I have always been surprised at the growth and diversity of Kenya. Surprised mainly due to the nothing but negative media coverage that is shown in the west about this beautiful country. Over the years I have come to see the two different side of Kenya. That which the media wants you to see, and the true reality of things.

This identity crisis has many looking the other way when it comes to investing in this emerging market. For many years the country was happy with the handouts they received from other countries, until they soon realized their is no such thing as a free lunch. Recently the government has taken action and implemented a new vision for Kenya to try and do away with this multiple-personality disorder. Not soon after it was underway a new media campaign was rolled out by the red cross showing images of starving Kenyans. Right on cue.

I, on the other hand, am torn by what I see. I am glad that not many(including Kenyans) see the opportunities I see. As an Entrepreneur  this gives me an advantage. Then I also noted that those who do seem to “see it” do not have the countries best interest in mind. This caused me to also do a gut check. Did my investment approach also have others in mind?

Thus as I change my investing focus from buying land in America to buy and investing in Kenya. I have chosen to dedicated this blog to my findings and to help highlight the many great opportunities in Kenya. With such great demands needing to be filled and responsible growth needed throughout the country. I invite all those who are interested to journey along to enriching others as we enrich ourselves.

LAMU, KENYA COAST

Lamu town is situated on Lamu island north of Mombasa (225miles) Conservation Area, Lamu town, Kenya. Lamu conjures up images of the ancient and the exotic. The towns consist of a network of narrow winding alleys linking bustling markets, shops, restaurants, houses, mosques and much more. Donkeys are the main form of transport.

Earliest Seaport of call in East Africa, Continuous practices of Swahili Culture. Lamu town, a World Heritage Site, is Kenya’s oldest living settlement, which grew as a trading post between Arabia and India since the 14th Century. Unique Swahili Architecture. Islamic centre in East Africa and annual religious festivals.

IN THE NEWS

Kenya and Qatar have opened negotiations on the construction of a port in Lamu, Coast Province.
The port is estimated to cost 3.5 billion US dollars.
President Kibaki (YES , this was back in 2008) held a successful round of talks with the Emir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalif Al Thani, where he presented the strong proposal.
The Emir assured President Kibaki that his Government was keen on the Lamu project as it seeks to diversify its international investment portfolio.
The State of Qatar and Kenya will also open negotiations that will lead to construction of the Garsen-Lamu Road.
Kenya has also offered Qatar a partnership in sovereign bond through which Kenya hopes to raise billions of shillings for infrastructure development.
